Wine tasting will benefit food bank

Share the finest wines, foods, and art in the area today and benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank at the first Latah Bistro Harvest Wine Tasting.

Wines from eight local wineries, including Lone Canary Winery, Arbor Crest Wine Cellars, Robert Karl Cellars, Townshend Cellar, Knipprath Cellars and Mountain Dome Winery will be on-site.

In addition to the plethora of wine to taste, the evening will include live music performed by Rob Vaughn, tapas prepared by local chef David Blaine and made from fresh produce provided by local growers, and a display of artwork from local artists, including Colleen Quinn and Mary Lehner.

Art, displayed on the new gallery wall at the bistro, will be available for purchase.

The festivities will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Latah Bistro, 4241 S. Cheney-Spokane Road.

All proceeds will be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank.

A show for charity

Catch the performance of “My Fair Lady” at the Spokane Civic Theatre on Wednesday and benefit the Omega Outreach Center.

The Omega Center, an outreach ministry, offers food, children’s clothing, utility assistance, and home and transportation services for the elderly and disabled and support to local residents in need.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Donate your old cell phone

Students and members of the Key Club at Sandpoint High School are collecting used cell phones to be recycled now through the end of the school year. Each student will receive from $1 to $10 per phone and will donate the proceeds to victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Phones may be dropped off in the school’s main office, 410 S. Division Ave.

Christmas Cheer Carnival

Join the “Has Beens and Gonna Bees” at the Market Street Market Place for a carnival of fun.

The event will include games, arts and crafts, food, music, and a silent auction Oct. 28 from 5 to 9 p.m., Oct. 29 from noon to 10 p.m. and Oct. 30 from noon to 6 p.m.

For those in the mood for some scary fun, a haunted house will be next door.

Tickets for the games are four for $1, or 25 for $5. Wristband will be available for $10 and include an unlimited number of games for all three days.

Proceeds will benefit Christmas Cheer Day 2005, a celebration held at the Northeast Community Center open to low-income families and disabled or elderly people in the Spokane area.
