Mead clinches share of volleyball crown

Karyn Mockel served 18 consecutive points in the second game and Erin Norris had 10 kills and three blocks as Mead clinched at least a share of its third straight Greater Spokane League volleyball title Tuesday with a 25-7, 25-3, 25-17 victory over visiting East Valley.

Mockel also had 26 assists to lead the Panthers (12-0), while Stephanie Bellefeuille led the Knights (3-9) with eight assists and four digs.

In other GSL action, Anna Walters had 11 kills and Kristen Solberg added eight blocks to lead North Central (6-6) over visiting Gonzaga Prep 3-1. Kayla Rekofke led the Bullpups (7-5) with 10 kills. … Ashlee Lupfer had 10 kills, five aces and 16 digs as University (8-4) defeated visiting Mt. Spokane 3-1. Lauren Schneidmiller had 14 kills for the Wildcats (8-4), while Erica Ziegler added 16 assists and 10 digs. … Stacy Andersen had 13 kills and 12 digs to lead Shadle Park (9-3) over West Valley 3-1. Mel Dossey had 15 kills and five blocks for the Eagles (3-9). … Sam Kern had 27 assists and Ashley Roberts had 29 digs to lead Central Valley (7-5) to a 3-2 victory over visiting Ferris, taking the deciding game 15-8. Maddy Lorenz led the Saxons (6-6) with 12 kills, three aces, 21 digs and four blocks. … Stephanie Ogden had nine kills to lead Clarkston (2-10) to a 3-1 win over visiting Cheney. Meghan Cogley had seven blocks for the Blackhawks (1-11). … Allison Moran had 25 assists and five digs as Lewis and Clark swept host Rogers (1-11). Hannah Zimmerman added nine kills and three aces for the Tigers (11-1).

Miranda Weitz‘s 17 kills led first-place Pullman’s attack in a 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 sweep of visiting Medical Lake (1-7) in Great Northern League play. The Greyhounds (9-0) took control of the match with a 22-3 run to finish the second game. … Brooke Schanzenbach had seven kills, seven digs and five blocks to lead Chewelah (5-4) to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Deer Park (0-9). Maddie Kernan led Chewelah’s offense with 28 assists. … Kelli Tikker had 17 kills and Lindsay Jelke had 37 assists as Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls (7-2) swept host Riverside. Kayla Newberg had 14 kills for the Rams (3-5).

Girls soccer

Deer Park scored the first two Great Northern League goals against first-place Pullman this season, but Katie Spangenberg‘s two goals and two assists gave the Greyhounds (12-1, 9-0) a 4-2 victory and at least a share of the league title at Deer Park. Ashley Attridge scored the first goal for the Stags (7-6, 5-4) in the 42nd minute. … Randi Hollen and Kim Fischer scored in the final 15 minutes to give Riverside (7-5, 6-3) some breathing room in a 4-2 win over host Colville. Caroline Geiger scored in the 73rd for the Indians (4-8, 2-7). … Jamie Kenney scored to open each half as Lakeside (6-7, 5-4) blanked Chewelah (1-11, 0-9) 4-0 at Nine Mile Falls. Jacy Fitzpatrick assisted both of Kenney’s goals and added a goal in the 39th minute.

Cross country

Ross Monasmith (18 minutes, 47 seconds) led four Chewelah runners in their win over Deer Park in a Great Northern League dual meet at Deer Park High School’s 5,000-meter course. Carolyn Gray (21:24) led the Stags to victory in the girls’ race. … Ryan Cole (16:50) led three Colville runners in the top four as the Indians defeated host Riverside and Medical Lake in a 5,000-meter race at Bear Lake State Park. Brittney Williams (20:18) of Colville won the girls’ race, but Riverside finished four in the top six to take the team victory. … Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls swept the top four spots in both the boys and girls races to defeat visiting Pullman. Max Reeder (16:17 for 5,000) and Kayloni Jones (19:51) took individual honors.
