World Wide Packets adds new office

Spokane Valley-based World Wide Packets has added an engineering office in San Jose, Calif., to hire software programmers who can develop products for large customers.

Company CEO and President Dave Curry said the office will start with five or six workers and grow over time to as many as 15.

World Wide Packets designs products for cities, residential developments and telecommunication companies to transmit information via high-speed Gigabit Ethernet networks. It has about 70 workers at its headquarters on Sullivan Road in the Valley, said Curry.

It’s seeing increasing demand from telecom carriers and creators of metropolitan networks, said Curry, requiring more software engineers who can write code for that market’s particular needs.

“We face a challenge finding enough of those people in Spokane,” Curry said. “So we decided to come to the Silicon Valley, which is the center of the universe for this technology.”

Spokane has geographic advantages that can help recruit engineers, said Curry. But the Spokane region lacks a sufficient number of other technology companies so that anyone coming here has options if one job doesn’t pan out.

“And when you factor in relocation costs and that the tech market is heating up, this is a good choice for us,” Curry said.

The office will also help the company attract new partners and customers, said Curry.

Mike Nielsen, executive vice president of engineering and product management, will be in charge of the San Jose office.

“As we continue to grow, our office in San Jose will allow us to tap into one of the richest market source for intellectual capital in the world,” Curry said in a press release.
