Sensitive cards

Finding that right birthday card can be difficult. Finding an appropriate card for a special situation – someone is diagnosed with a chronic illness, for example – can be nearly impossible. But now a Chicago company, Caring Path, has a line of cards for people facing chronic illness, for those in recovery and for caregivers.

There’s a card for “The newest member of the heart attack survivor club,” a “Happy Last Chemo!” card and others that encourage caregivers. Find the items at caringpath.com.

The trend: Big necklaces

The finds: Strands from Diva Designs

The look: When Hollywood trendsetters such as tiny Mary-Kate Olsen started wearing long, heavy necklaces a year ago in a distinctly bohemian-meets- old-lady fashion, we wondered if the idea would catch on with the hoi polloi. It has. And it’s one of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to take an outfit you’ve got in your closet and update it for ‘05. Go with something simple like one or two strands of wooden beads, or take it up a notch with something more shiny, glittery and girlie. Layer these things on.
