Sandpoint defeats PF in shootout

Kyle Van Dyk scored two shootout goals, including Sandpoint’s 10th and final score, as the reigning State 4A boys soccer champions punched their ticket to next week’s state tournament in Boise with a 1-0 victory over visiting Post Falls in the 4A Region I championship match Thursday.

Goalkeeper Seth Baker had four saves for the Bulldogs (15-1-2) in regulation and overtime play and added a pair of goals in the shootout. Justin Johnson had 12 saves for the Trojans (9-7), who will play either Kuna or Emmett on Saturday in another winner-to-state match at Lewiston.

Volleyball

Davi Swan and Rian Miller each had 11 kills as fourth-seeded Lakeside swept fifth-seeded Post Falls Christian 25-15, 25-21, 25-17 in a 1A District I first-round match at Plummer. Katie Hoye had five kills, 20 digs and two blocks for PFC (4-12), which saw its season end. Lakeside (8-10) will host Kootenai (22-2) in Saturday’s first semifinal. … Tiffany Van Buren had 20 digs and Tia Becker served eight aces to give third-seeded Clark Fork a 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 sweep of sixth-seeded Coeur d’Alene Charter (4-10) in another loser-out affair. The Wampus Cats (11-10) will play Wallace (12-7) in Saturday’s other semifinal.

Girls soccer

Abby Busboom scored in the first minute and Katie Spangenberg added insurance in the second half to give Pullman the Great Northern League title and a 2-0 win over host Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls (6-8, 5-5).
