Churches offer parties with seasonal theme

If you’ve found yourself with a longing for apple bobbing and pumpkin carving, area churches are hosting autumn-themed parties for young and old.

Liferoads Church, 4209 E. Pacific Ave., is hosting its second annual harvest party Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Activities will include a jumping castle, games, face painting, activity booths and music.

Costumes are welcome as long as they are family friendly.

Spokane Faith Center, 3330 W. Central Ave., is presenting its 16th annual harvest party Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The evening will include candy, prizes, carnival booths and concessions.

Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline, is offering a harvest party Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

There will be a Bible-themed costume contest for kids, a pumpkin-carving contest, a cake walk and candy.

Northside Church of Christ, 5601 N. Jefferson St., is hosting a harvest party Monday from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

Kids will receive a bag of candy, and there will be games and a harvest maze.

Costumes are encouraged, but no swords, guns or weapons will be allowed.

“ The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., is holding its annual Halloween party and haunted hallway Sunday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Kids and grown-ups are invited to don their finest Halloween apparel and be led through the hallway by members of the church’s youth group.

There also will be games, refreshments and crafts.

Admission to this event is a can of food for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry St., is presenting its Halloween party Monday from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The party for junior and senior high school students will include the movie, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” candy and scary treats.

Workshops and speakers

Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Road, is offering a Stephen Series Caring Ministries workshop Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Stephen Ministries is a program for lay ministers to provide for those in need.

The first session will discuss “Ministering to Those Experiencing Grief.”

The second session will provide an overview of Stephen Ministries, and the third will discuss “How to Care in a Distinctively Christian Way.”

The cost is $15.

“ Whitworth College, 300 W. Hawthorne Road, is presenting George Marsden, a history professor at the University of Notre Dame, today at 7:30 p.m. in the campus’s Robinson Teaching Theater in Weyerhaeuser Hall.

Marsden will discuss “How ‘Otherworldly’ Fundamentalism Became a Political Power.”

The class will teach participants how to examine their minds using three different meditation practices.

Missionary concert

Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, 5508 N. Alberta, is hosting the Liberated Wailing Wall Friday at 7 p.m.

The group is a music team, and its members are full-time missionaries on the staff of Jews for Jesus.

The Liberated Wailing Wall will perform selections from its CD, “Behold Your God.”

A free-will offering will be taken, and the proceeds will benefit Jews for Jesus.

Fall bazaar

Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 1926 W. Chelan Ave., is presenting its annual fall bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Items for sale will include crafts, plants, quilts, baked goods and white elephants.

Soup, sandwiches and pie will also be available for sale.
