The only problem is the good doctor that I play golf with weekly is headed to Nepal for a three-month trip. So I’ll have to work myself out of the present quandary.
For a second straight week, yours truly lost. Coeur d’Alene girls basketball coach Dale Poffenroth put up the first perfect week of the season. The difference was Moscow’s 24-7 win over Post Falls. Nice pick, Poff.
The guests are on the verge of history. For the first time in the 12-year history of Panhandle picks, the Scribe and the guests are tied going into the final week of the regular season. The scoreboard: Lee 64-22 (.744), Guests 64-22 (.744). I feel like the proverbial cat on a window ledge.
I must amend my usual preamble here. I can’t call my traditional season-ending guest, co-worker Jim Meehan, Big Red anymore. He has a healthy crop of gray rapidly invading the watermelon pasture.
I haven’t lost a season to the guests since 1996. My string of eight consecutive wins is in jeopardy. I’m also in danger of losing back-to-back years to Meehan, who would be 6-1 with his Seahawks predictions if he could get inside place-kicker Josh Brown’s helmet.
The head-to-head count between Mr. Prep and Mr. Seahawk is 6-4-1 – favoring, of course, yours truly.
Meehan argues the record should be 5-4-2 because one season was decided by point differential. I offered him my hanky, but he declined.
Coeur d’Alene at Lake City: Some suspected these teams’ offenses were going to be less potent than last year when the Vikings had Gabe Le and the Timberwolves had Ben Widmeyer. Both teams have put up points in bunches, seemingly scoring at will – especially the last two weeks. So something must give. Doing much of the giving, so to speak, will be the defenses. CdA will bend the least. CdA 42, LC 35.
Guest: The combined score could be in the vicinity of the national debt. Kevin Ah-Hi is tough to stop and Jake Hall is averaging 19 yards per completion. LC has weapons on offense, but its defense has been susceptible at times. Too bad these two don’t have the opportunity to face each other for the state title. CdA 45, LC 35.
Sandpoint at Post Falls: The Bulldogs are peaking at the right time. The Trojans? Well, 2006 can’t get here soon enough. Sandpoint 36, PF 7.
Guest: The Bulldogs have the offense cranked up and Kurt Stoll could run wild as he pursues the IEL rushing title. Sandpoint clinches a 4A playoff berth. Sandpoint 38, PF 16.
