G-Prep holds off Mt. Spokane in district play

Kristana Fruci had 11 kills as Gonzaga Prep held on for a 22-25, 26-24, 25-16, 14-25 17-15 win over Mt. Spokane Thursday in the first round of the District 8 4A volleyball tournament at Mt. Spokane.

Amanda Haid had a match-high 16 digs and three aces for the victorious Bullpups, who will travel to Mead today for a 7 p.m. game.

The Wildcats were led by Janie Rasmussen’s 16 kills and Erica Ziegler’s 38 assists and 11 digs.

In other District 8 4A action, Stacy Anderson had 11 kills and an ace as Shadle Park swept visiting University. Carly White had 20 digs and Brynn DeLong three blocks and an ace for the winning Highlanders, who will travel to Lewis and Clark today at 7 p.m. U-Hi will take on Mt. Spokane in a loser-out match Saturday.

Stephanie Morrison and Traci Lindstrum each finished with eight kills as Davenport swept Reardan 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 in the semifinals of the Bi-County tournament at Reardan. The victorious Gorillas (18-4) also got 32 assists from Mallory Mielke. Reardan (14-5) will play Northwest Christian Saturday. … In other tournament play at Reardan, Stacie Shields had 20 kills and Jennifer Adams 14 digs as Sprague-Harrington (19-2) clinched a spot in the league championship match by beating Lind-Ritzville (14-9) 25-19, 25-18 25-22. The victorious Falcons will play Davenport for the top spot in district Saturday at Reardan. The Broncos will play Wilbur-Creston Saturday. … Ashley Warnecke and Caitlyn Reidt each had 15 kills as W-C beat Liberty 20-25, 28-26, 26-24, 25-21 in loser-out consolation action. Warnecke also had 29 assists and five blocks for the Wildcats (11-10). Cami Bullock had 25 kills and three blocks for the Lancers (6-21). … Hannah Winters had 10 kills and 10 blocks as NWC (9-12) battled back to beat Odessa 10-25, 17-25, 25-22, 31-29, 15-9 in a loser-out match. The Tigers (7-8) were led by Andrea Kuch, who had 12 kills and 10 blocks.

“Inchelium swept Selkirk 25-14, 26-24, 25-16 to finish the first day of the Panorama League tournament undefeated. Earlier in the day, the Hornets (12-3), the league’s No. 3 seed, beat Republic 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 25-14. Inchelium advances to play second-seeded St. George’s on Saturday at Curlew. … In other tournament play, after falling to Inchelium, Republic (10-6) held off Cusick 25-12, 25-11, 25-19 to advance to a matchup against Selkirk (8-17), which had beaten Cusick (5-9) earlier in the day. Cusick is out of the tournament. The winner of the Republic/Selkirk matchup advances to play the top-seeded Curlew Cougars on Saturday at Curlew.

Emilee Lepp had a match-high 13 kills as Colville (8-4) trailed in each game before rallying to clinch third place in the Great Northern League with a 27-25, 25-22, 25-22 win over Chewelah at Colville. Caitlin McGrane had 17 digs for the Indians. Chewelah (6-5) was led by Brooke Schanzenbach’s eight kills and two aces. … In other GNL action, Grethe Vogel had 11 kills as Pullman (11-1), which had already clinched the league title, swept Riverside (5-6) 25-17, 25-18, 25-15 at Pullman. … Kelli Tikker had 17 kills, four blocks and a pair of aces as Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls (9-3) wrapped up second place with a 25-25, 29-27 25-17 win over Medical Lake (1-10) at ML.

Girls soccer

Anna Albrecht scored twice in the first half as Pullman closed out an undefeated GNL season with a 2-0 win over Riverside (9-6, 8-4, 26 points). The outcome marked the 14th shutout of the season for the Greyhounds (15-1, 12-0, 35 points). Pullman held Riverside to one shot as the Greyhounds shut out all but two of their opponents in regular-season action. … In other GNL action, Maja Willoughby scored a pair of second-half goals as Colville (5-10, 3-9, nine points) shut out Medical Lake (8-8, 6-6, 16 points) 2-0 in at Colville. Caroline Geiger stopped all six Cardinals shots as the Indians finished with a 15-6 shots-on-goal edge.
