Kootenai sweeps way to first place in pool play

LEWISTON – Hannah Nyrop finished the day with 22 kills and Darcy Collins added 17 as Kootenai didn’t lose a game in sweeping three pool-play matches at the Idaho State 1A volleyball tournament Thursday at Lewis-Clark State College.

The Warriors scored a 25-14, 25-14 win over Hagerman to start the day, then swept North Gem 25-7, 25-16 before finishing the day with a 25-12, 25-19 win over Tri-Valley to earn first place in pool B.

Kootenai will begin the 18-team, double-elimination tournament today, again at Lewis-Clark State, against Mackey at 8:30 a.m.

Setter Cassie Sheffelmeier finished the day with 51 assists and Kendra Wilms added 20 digs, 15 in the opener against Hagerman, and two blocks. Adrian Dahlkey also added 12 aces on the day.

In other State 1A volleyball action at Lewiston High School, Wallace started the day by sweeping Oakley 2-0, but was then swept by Genesee and lost two games to one to Cole Valley Christian to finish the day 1-2 and place third in Pool C.
