Where: Eagle Island State Park, Eagle

Schedule: 4A girls, 11:30 a.m. MST; 5A girls, noon; 4A boys, 12:30; 5A boys, 1; 2A girls, 1:30; 3A girls, 2; 2A boys, 2:30; 3A boys, 3.

What’s at stake: The top four teams earn trophies and the top 20 individuals earn medals.

2004 state champs: Capital (boys); Coeur d’Alene (girls)

Title contenders: Boise, Borah, Mountain View (boys); Boise, Mountain View, Borah (girls)

Outlook: In the final team rankings, Lake City’s boys were ranked fifth and CdA is sixth. LC’s girls were ranked sixth. All three teams should contend for a trophy. Boise’s boys and girls are ranked 14th in the nation by Harrier magazine. CdA’s Kristin Palmer, a senior, and Anna Stone, a junior, will contend for the girls title. Palmer and Stone finished fourth and sixth, respectively, last year. Palmer is ranked fourth and Stone fifth.

2004 state champs: Hillcrest (boys); Bishop Kelly (girls)

Title contenders: Hillcrest, Nampa, Bishop Kelly (boys); Bishop Kelly, Hillcrest (girls)

Outlook: Post Falls’ girls, led by freshman Angie Whalen, and Moscow will contend for trophies. The Trojans’ girls are ranked third. Senior Melissa McFadden of Post Falls finished third last year. She is ranked ninth.

3A

2004 state champs: Bear Lake (boys and girls)

Title contenders: Bear Lake, Timberlake (boys); Bear Lake, Weiser (girls)

Outlook: Timberlake junior Frank Lagrimanta is ranked No. 1 and a slight favorite over McCall-Donnelly’s Ian Faurot, a senior who placed third last year. Priest River junior Whitney Payment is ranked third.

2A

2004 state champs: Firth (boys and girls)

Title contenders: Firth, Malad (boys); Firth, Soda Springs (girls)

Outlook: Kootenai senior Cameron Lockard, who finished 30th last year, is ranked 16th. Kootenai is ranked fifth and will contend for a trophy. Firth’s boys are seeking a ninth consecutive state title.
