Jensen, Page lead Eagles to rout of UNF

Ashley Jensen had a match-high 16 kills and Brittney Page added 14 as the Eastern Washington University volleyball team swept North Florida 30-26, 30-21, 30-27 in non-conference action Wednesday in Jacksonville, Fla.

Jensen finished with a .556 hitting percentage and Page with a .650 percentage as the Eagles (5-2) hit an impressive .328 on the evening.

The Ospreys (3-3) managed just a .142 hitting percentage, totaling 21 errors.

Andrea Verdoljak added three aces for the Eagles.

•Natalie Danielson led a sparking Whitworth attack as the Pirates smothered visiting Lewis-Clark, routing the Bucs 30-12, 30-17, 30-19 in non-conference action.

Danielson hit .480 and Carey Guhlke added nine kills on a .438 hitting percentage as the Pirates (4-1) finished with a .416 hitting percentage.

LCSC (1-4) was punchless on offense, finishing with more attack errors (24) than kills (22) and a negative hitting percentage.

•Emily Wittkopf had nine kills as Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Big Bend 30-24, 30-20, 35-33 at Moses Lake in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges opener for both schools.

Women’s soccer

EWU junior goalkeeper Tiera Como was named the Big Sky Conference player of the week.

Como led the Eagles to their first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over Akron in the New Mexico Nike Classic Friday.

Como leads all Big Sky keepers with 37 saves and is third on the all-time career saves list at Eastern with 184.

Golf

Ron Janney of Colbert, Wash., fired an opening-round 71 to take a two-shot lead after the first round of the 19th Washington State Senior Amateur Championship at SunLand Golf and Country Club in Sequim, Wash.

Gene Teigen of Spokane was tied for second after firing a 73. Spokane’s Jim O’Rourke shot a 75.
