Kern sets up five-game CV victory; Mt. Spokane also triumphs in five

Central Valley setter Samantha Kern had 37 assists and 24 digs Tuesday to lead the Bears to a 3-2 victory at West Valley in a Greater Spokane League volleyball match.

West Valley (1-2) fought back from its two-game deficit to end up on top in two 25-20 battles to force a fifth game. Mel Dossey led the Eagles’ attack with 14 kills, three aces and three blocks.

Ashley Roberts had 10 kills for CV (2-1), which captured the match with a 15-9 final-game win.

Also in the GSL, Mt. Spokane triumphed over host Ferris in another GSL five-game match, blowing a two-game lead but rebounding to win the fifth 15-9. Erica Ziegler (32 assists, 10 digs) had a double-double for the Wildcats (3-0), while Maddy Lorenz (10 kills, 14 digs) had one for Ferris (1-2). … Sara Lewis and Tristen Kelly each had 12 assists to lead Shadle Park (2-1) to a sweep at Clarkston (0-3). … Rachel Bonertz led East Valley (1-2) with 11 kills and four blocks in a home sweep over Rogers (0-3). … Janae Forney and Erica Ehlo each had 11 kills to lead Lewis and Clark (2-1) to a sweep at Gonzaga Prep (2-1). Forney also had eight blocks. … Amy Herron had an 11-point service run to go with her 22 assists and eight aces as reigning State 4A champion Mead (3-0) posted a 25-8, 25-15, 25-8 home win over Cheney (0-3). … Ashlee Lupfer dominated the net for University (2-1) with 22 kills in a 3-1 victory at North Central. Anna Walters led the Indians (2-1) with six kills, 10 digs and five blocks.

•Cassie Stuart opened the deciding fourth game with four of her five aces to lead Colville over Medical Lake (0-3) on opening night of Great Northern League play at Colville. Stuart added five aces for the Indians (1-0), and Jordan Emmil added 29 assists. … In other GNL openers, Miranda Weitz led Pullman with 13 kills and seven blocks to lead the host Greyhounds over Chewelah in four games. Brooke Schanzenbach had 12 digs and four blocks for the Cougars. … Kelli Tikker‘s 13 kills and two aces led Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls to a sweep at Deer Park.
