Moreland’s play propels Lake City

Riki Moreland’s two-way attack proved to be the difference for Lake City as the Timberwolves defeated Sandpoint 25-14, 15-25, 17-25, 25-20, 16-14 in an Inland Empire League volleyball match Tuesday night at Sandpoint.

Moreland led LC (3-1, 3-1 IEL) with seven service aces and six blocks and received help up front from Kaylen Meredith, who had 14 kills.

In other IEL action, Meredith and Maddie Dolny teamed up to lead Moscow (9-0, 3-0 IEL) to a 3-0 sweep over Post Falls. Meredith had nine kills, while Maddie added 31 assists. Each had three aces. Kara Biederstedt had 13 kills and three aces to lead host Lewiston over Lakeland 25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 14-25, 15-13.

Katie Poston had 20 kills, four digs and three aces as Bonners Ferry edged Timberlake 25-20, 25-23, 20-25, 17-15, 15-13 for its first Intermountain League victory in a match at Spirit Lake. Tarra Tymesen had a solid all-around effort for the Tigers (6-6, 0-3 IML) with eight kills, nine digs and nine blocks. … In other IML match, Jenna Robinson controlled the net with 15 kills, and Erin Sather added 26 assists and seven aces to lead St. Maries to a 25-18, 25-12, 25-4 victory over Kellogg.

Lisa Carver served nine aces and Shala Wild added eight as Wallace crushed Mullan 25-4, 25-11, 25-4 in a North Star League match at Wallace. … In other NSL action, Hannah Nyrop had nine kills, two aces and eight digs to lead visiting Kootenai over Clark Fork 25-17, 25-13, 25-9. … Lakeside (Plummer) swept host Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy 25-10, 25-18, 25-14.

Boys soccer

Coeur d’Alene junior Justin Honsaker scored two second-half goals and added a pair of assists as the Vikings defeated host Lakeland 4-0 in an Inland Empire League contest at Rathdrum. Brayden Jerde added a goal and assisted on both of Honsaker’s goals for the Vikings (4-1-2, 2-0 IEL), who outshot the Hawks 20-5. Garret Lowell scored the first CdA goal in the 18th minute. Senior goalkeeper Jeff McMillan had 11 saves for the Hawks (1-5, 1-4). … In another IEL match, Andy Perez scored twice and assisted on Lewiston’s other goal as the Bengals defeated Lake City 3-1 in Lewiston. Dominic Schmidt hit the game winner for the Bengals in the 43rd minute. Cody Steele scored for the Timberwolves in the 66th minute.

Girls soccer

Jaimee Myers scored in the 30th and 32nd minutes to lead Coeur d’Alene over Lakeland 4-1 in an Inland Empire League match at CdA. The Vikings (6-1, 2-0 IEL) took a 3-0 lead into halftime, led by Sadie Simon‘s goal in the 17th minute and Myers’ pair of quick scores. Shandra Naegle also found the goal for CdA, who outshot Lakeland 13-4. Megan O’Rourke assisted on Myers’ second goal and played stellar defense for the Vikings. Kayla Stiegemeier scored in the 43rd for the Hawks (4-1, 4-1), and Amanda North had eight saves. … In other IEL action, Sam Lindsay, Emma Hawn and Kaitlyn McDonald each scored in the second half to lead Lake City to a 3-1 home victory over Lewiston. … Katie Adams scored two goals and added two assists as Sandpoint dominated host Post Falls 10-0. Sadey Vogel and Becca Stone each added two goals for the Bulldogs, and Brittany Clauson added a goal and two assists. Sandpoint had been shut out in its last two matches. Sam Houseman had 14 saves for the Trojans.
