M’s should upgrade announcers

The Spokesman-Review

I am sure any of us following the Mariners would agree they have some weak spots to correct. In my opinion, a very weak spot not involving the players is the TV announcers.

There may be a worse announcer at some level than Ron Fairly. In my 70-plus years I have not heard him/her. He is redundant, and it is not uncommon for him to be wrong. If you took away his response, “There is no question about that,” he would have little to say. Come to think of it, that might be a blessing.

Dave Niehaus isn’t that much better. It seems the only pitch he thinks he knows is the change. Frequently he will call out, “change.” When you look on the jugs number on the television screen you will see 90-91. A little fast for a change.

Rick Rizzs and Dave Valle do a much better job. That includes Dave Henderson as well.

If there are plans to improve the Mariners, don’t stop on the playing field. We need major-league announcers as well.
