West Valley takes Seaport Invitational

Marc Smith finished in third place to lead West Valley’s boys to a dominating team win at the Seaport Invitational in cross country action Saturday in Clarkston.

Smith finished the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 11 seconds as WV finished with 28 points, 55 points ahead of second-place Moscow. Pullman, with 110 points, finished third.

On the girls’ side, Larsen Agee’s second-place finish led West Valley to a first-place team finish.

Agee finished in 19:27 as the Eagles, with 51 points, earned a one-point win over Moscow, with Pullman finishing third with 80 points.

Volleyball

Miranda Weitz had 12 kills as Pullman swept Medical Lake in Great Northern League action in Medical Lake. Grethe Vogel complemented Weitz with six aces and three blocks for the Greyhounds (3-0). Caitlin Smith had eight kills, two digs and added a block for the Cardinals (0-2).

Idaho preps

Justin Honsaker scored once in each half as Coeur d’Alene held off Lewiston 4-2 in Inland Empire League boys soccer action in Coeur d’Alene. Kyle Wise and Travis Hathaway also scored for CdA (4-1-2, 3-0). Dominic Schmidt and Iovko Margaritov registered tallies for Lewiston (3-3-1, 3-1). … In other IEL play, Cody Steele had two goals and an assist as Lake City (3-2-2, 1-1-1) blanked Lakeland (1-6, 1-5) 5-0 at Lake City. Chris Shaw added a pair of assists for LC.

Daniel Guimaraes scored twice as St. Maries upended Orofino (0-1, 0-1) 5-2 in Intermountain League action at Orofino. Guimaraes scored in the 22nd and 60th minutes and Luke Samford added a goal and an assist for St. Maries (3-5-1, 1-1). … In other IML play, Tyler Pauls had a hat trick and Jimmy Sund scored twice as Bonners Ferry (5-2, 2-0) routed Priest River (0-1, 0-1) 11-2 at Priest River.

•Kayla Stiegemeier scored twice, including the game winner in the 80th minute, as Lakeland (6-1, 5-1) scored twice in the last minute and a half to beat visiting Lake City (5-3-1, 1-2) 3-2 in IEL girls soccer action at Rathdrum. … Elsewhere, Sadie Simon had a hat trick and an assist as Coeur d’Alene (6-1, 3-0) beat host Lewiston (2-4-1, 0-4) 5-1.
