Wienerfest, the third annual picnic and potluck BBQ to benefit Dachshund Rescue NW, will be 3-6 p.m. Saturday at the Lilac City Dog Training Club in Spokane. This event guarantees fun for the whole Weiner-loving family, including an agility basics class, a Hot Dog Costume Contest and practice for the upcoming wiener dog races and lots of other games to play with your four-legged friends.

Like last year, a potluck barbecue is planned, so bring a dish to share. Hot dogs and macaroni, anyone?

Grills are available for yummy steaks or anything else you plan to enjoy, but the event is grill-it-yourself. Remember to bring enough for the whole family. Plates and utensils, napkins, cups and beverages will be provided, but not lawn chairs or eating surfaces, so plan accordingly. Event organizers are still in search of a few more loaner grills for the afternoon and volunteers to help set up beginning at 2 p.m.

The event is free for current dog club members, $5 per family for non-members. Festivities will be at 1612 E. Houston, two blocks north of Francis between Pittsburg and Helena. Look for the large, grey metal building on the south side of the street. Event organizers ask that attendees not park in front of the gates.

Call Margo Mossburg, director of Dachshund Club of Spokane and Dachshund Rescue NW and event manager at (509) 838-3820, or Carolyn Smelcer, assistant director at (509) 482-6025 for more information.
