Spear nets four goals, Ferris cruises past WV

Senior Aly Spear scored a career-high four goals, all in the first half as Ferris posted an 8-3 victory over West Valley in a Greater Spokane League girls soccer match Friday at Ferris.

Spear put the Saxons (5-0 GSL) ahead 2-0 in the third minute off an assist from Alyssa Demory, then reeled off goals in the 29th, 33rd and 36th minutes to give the Saxons a 5-1 halftime lead. Lindsay Hood scored all three goals for WV (1-4).

University improved to 5-0 in the GSL with a 6-0 home win over Clarkston. Tonya Schnibbe had two goals and two assists for the Titans, who held the Bantams (0-5) without a shot for the match. … Defender Tara Cronin scored in the 22nd minute and set up Stacey Hamer in the 46th as Gonzaga Prep (4-1) defeated host East Valley 2-0 to knock the Knights (4-1) out of a first-place tie. … Avery Hallman and Chelsea Jones each scored as host Mt. Spokane (3-2) defeated Central Valley (3-2) 2-0. Mt. Spokane’s Kalie Phillipy recorded eight saves to earn a shutout. … Katija Margitich scored off a feed from Tori Dezellem in the 54th minute to give Shadle Park (3-2) a 1-0 home win over Cheney (1-4). … Jaimey Etten assisted Chelsea Mykines in the 58th minute to give host Mead (3-2) a 1-0 win over Lewis and Clark (2-3). … North Central freshman Ashley Sillivan scored in the 42nd minute and added three assists, her first points in GSL play, as the host Indians (1-4) defeated Rogers (0-5) 8-0.


Mt. Spokane jumped to an 8-2 lead and took game 5 15-10 to earn a win at Gonzaga Prep (3-3) in GSL play. Erica Ziegler had 38 assists and seven digs for Mt. Spokane (5-1). … Hannah Zimmerman had 10 kills and Janae Forney added seven blocks as Lewis and Clark (5-1) swept host North Central. Anna Walters had nine kills and 10 digs for NC (2-4).
