23 prisoners sent to other counties

The Spokesman-Review

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office sent 23 inmates to other North Idaho counties Friday because of overcrowding. Nine inmates went to Latah County while 14 were taken to Shoshone County, including some who are waiting transportation to the state penitentiary.

The cost of housing inmates in other counties varies. On average, housing 24 inmates costs about $1,000 per day, Capt. Ben Wolfinger said in a press release. That cost doesn’t include transportation and personnel expenses.

Wolfinger said the jail still remains over capacity, which could result in the loss of the Idaho Jail Standards Compliance Certificate. The last day that the jail was at or below the 325-bed capacity was July 23, 2005.

Spokane Valley woman dies in crash

A 41-year-old Spokane Valley woman died Thursday evening in a crash on Interstate 90 near Rose Lake, Idaho.

Cenia Enamorado-Munoz was a passenger in a 1993 Ford Explorer driven by 21-year-old Edvin Sabillon-Enamorado, also from Spokane Valley.

According to Idaho State Police, Sabillon-Enamorado’s vehicle was westbound on I-90 about 5:40 p.m. when the car drifted off the left shoulder into the median and swerved back across the road and off the right shoulder. The SUV rolled several times, coming to rest on its top, the state patrol said. Enamorado-Munoz was partially ejected from the vehicle.

Sabillon-Enamorado was in fair condition Friday at Kootenai Medical Center.

No charges have been filed at this time.
