Mets 3, Nationals 1: At Washington, New York got a tiebreaking homer from Michael Tucker and a sliding grab on the gravel by Carlos Delgado for the final out to secure the victory over Washington.

Pirates 7, Cardinals 0: At Pittsburgh, Paul Maholm pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings, Jason Bay and Joe Randa hit consecutive homers and Pittsburgh defeated division leader St. Louis.

Reds 7, Phillies 5 (11): At Philadelphia, Juan Castro and Ken Griffey Jr. drove in runs in the 11th inning and Cincinnati recovered from blowing a late lead to beat Philadelphia.

Padres 7, Astros 2: At Houston, Woody Williams pitched seven strong innings in another successful homecoming, leading San Diego over Houston.

Cubs 8, Rockies 7: At Denver, pinch-hitter Ryan Theriot hit a three-run double in the eighth inning and Chicago beat Colorado.

Marlins 6, Diamondbacks 5: At Phoenix, Miguel Cabrera hit his 18th homer and drove in four runs during his seventh consecutive multihit game, leading Florida to the victory over Arizona.

Dodgers 1, Giants 0 (11): At Los Angeles, Russell Martin homered to lead off the 10th inning and Los Angeles beat San Francisco after Greg Maddux and Jason Schmidt matched zeros for eight innings.
