Coaches select Whits at No. 5

The Spokesman-Review

With no starters returning, defending Northwest Conference volleyball champion Whitworth has been tabbed for fifth place in the preseason poll of coaches, the conference announced Monday.

Puget Sound, which finished second last season and advanced to the NCAA Division III tournament, is favored to win. The Loggers picked up five of nine first-place votes and 81 points.

Linfield is the No. 2 choice, with 70 points, followed by Pacific Lutheran (61), Whitman (53), Whitworth (43), George Fox, Lewis & Clark, Pacific and Willamette.

Fishing

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is again extending the Lake Washington sockeye salmon fishery and raising the catch limit to four per day from Wednesday through Sunday.

The extension will add five more days to the season, which had been scheduled to end today.
