Man arrested after car chase, crash and foot pursuit

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

A 21-year-old Potlatch man was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly leading sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase that ended with a crash and foot pursuit.

Deputy Richard Skiles was patrolling U.S. 95 near Potlatch about 2 a.m. when a car sped north on the highway at 98 mph, according to a press release from the Latah County Sheriff’s Office.

Skiles turned on his overhead lights and siren, but the car continued to speed and attempted to turn at Brinken Road, sliding into a ditch, the release said. The driver drove out of the ditch, across Deep Creek Road and into a field before returning to the road, authorities said. The car became stuck on Evergreen Road, and the driver and two passengers ran off, officials said. All three were apprehended. Deakin L. Ireland, 21, was arrested on suspicion of felony eluding. A 21-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man – the owner of the car – were also questioned but were not arrested, authorities said.
