Top 25 : Alabama’s Davidson reaches 1,000-point mark

Alabama’s Jermareo Davidson reached 1,000 career points during the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide’s 80-58 victory Friday against Lipscomb (8-5) in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Davidson’s 1,000th point came on a free throw, one of his 16 points. Alabama’s (12-1) Mykal Riley led all scorers with 21, and teammate Richard Hendrix added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

(17) LSU 60, Samford 45: At Baton Rouge, La., Glen Davis scored 19 points to lead the Tigers (10-3) past the Bulldogs (6-6) in the final game of the Hispanic College Fund Classic.

Davis, who scored 64 points in the Tigers’ three tournament victories, was selected the MVP.

(23) Air Force 78, Santa Clara 48: At Santa Clara, Calif., Jacob Burtschi scored 16 points with four 3-pointers and the Falcons (13-1) hit a season-high 16 3s on the way to their ninth straight victory, a win over the Broncos (10-5) in the championship game of the Cable Car Classic.

Women

(1) Maryland 92, UNC Greensboro 57: At College Park, Md., the top-ranked Terrapins (14-0) set a school record with 12 3-pointers and Kristi Toliver scored 16 points in a rout of the Spartans (6-5) in the first round of the Terrapin Classic.

(3) Duke 77, Dartmouth 40: At Hanover, N.H., stifling defense and Abby Waner’s 18 points helped the third-ranked Blue Devils (13-0) rout the Big Green (8-4) in the opening round of the Blue Sky Restaurant Group Classic.

(5) Connecticut 62, Hartford 36: At Hartford, Conn., Kalana Greene had 14 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and three steals to help the Huskies (10-0) shake off a slow start for a victory over the Hawks (7-6).

(15) Louisville 93, E. Illinois 75: At Louisville, Ky., Angel McCoughtry scored a school-record 41 points and had 12 rebounds in the Cardinals’ (14-0) win over the Panthers (5-8). McCoughtry broke the mark of 40 points set by Jodie Martin against Cincinnati on Jan. 2, 1994.

(16) Texas A&M 93, Sam Houston State 43: At College Station, Texas, Takia Starks scored 28 points to lead the Aggies (9-2) to a win over the Bearkats (3-9).

(20) Marquette 67, Navy 40: At Milwaukee, Krystal Ellis scored 14 points to lead the Golden Eagles (12-1) past the Midshpimen (4-8) for their 11th consecutive victory.

(25) Bowling Green 70, Delaware 59: At Bowling Green, Ohio, Liz Honegger scored 24 points to lead the Falcons (9-2) past the Hens (10-2) that snapped Delaware’s nine-game winning streak.
