Few stands for more

The Spokesman-Review

I enjoyed the letters to the sports editor following Gonzaga’s losses to Georgia and Duke. The letters have merit, but they fail to see the bigger picture of what Mark Few has brought to the Gonzaga basketball program.

Here are some of the things Few has done that go beyond wins and losses and trips to the Final Four:

“Remained loyal to the Gonzaga program and to Spokane.

“Made sure his players remained academically eligible and got an education.

“Took responsibility for wins and losses during the seasons.

“Maintained a coaching staff that is outstanding in the area of player development.

“Brought nationwide respect to Gonzaga by seeing that he, his staff, and players serve as positive role models.

Gonzaga will lose some basketball games. Few is not perfect, and neither are the kids he coaches. Fortunately for us, his value as a coach goes way, way beyond wins and losses.
