The Spokesman-Review

KELOWNA, British Columbia – The Spokane Chiefs ended their road trip Wednesday with a 5-2 loss at Kelowna in Western Hockey League play.

Troy Bodie put the Rockets (36-18-1-3) on the board in the first period with an even-strength goal at the 5-minute, 45-second mark.

Kelowna went up 2-0 on Justin Keller’s power-play goal at 9 minutes. The Rockets extended their lead to 3-0 when Bodie scored his second with just less than 2 minutes remaining in the period.

Despite playing the second period to a scoreless standstill, Kelowna continued its strong play against Spokane (21-31-5-3) in the second period as the Chiefs were outshot 10-6 and 32-16 through two periods.

Kelowna struck first in the final period with Keller’s second power-play goal of the game. Less than a minute later, Jared Spurgeon answered for Spokane with his third goal of the year.

After Kelowna again increased its lead to four goals, Seth Compton scored for the Chiefs.

Spokane lost its fifth consecutive game overall and is winless in its past 13 road games, dating back to Dec. 28. The Chiefs are three points out of the final playoff spot in the U.S. Division.
