District 81 honors literacy coaches

The Spokesman-Review

Bemiss Elementary school’s literacy coaches, Molly Bozo, Barb Miller and Deb Portner, and North Central and Rogers high schools’ AVID teams, Joey Morton, Julie Poage, Mona Griffin, Ted Lyon and Brian Leavitt, were selected as this year’s first Spokane Public Schools’ Distinguished Educator Team award winners.

Bemiss Principal Kevin Peterson nominated the literacy coaches for their outstanding work to plan teachers’ Thursday morning collaborative times.

AVID is a new program at NC and Rogers this year. The AVID staff worked to align the curriculum with state and district standards, recruit students, hold information sessions, conduct interviews and collect data to get the program off the ground.
