Seahawks sign all but one pick

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks signed second-round pick Darryl Tapp on Thursday, leaving first-rounder Kelly Jennings as the only draft choice not under contract.

Earlier Thursday, Seattle signed fourth-round draft choice Rob Sims and seventh-round pick Ben Obomanu. All rookies are due to report to training camp in Cheney today.

Tapp, a 6-foot-1, 252-pound defensive end, was taken with the 63rd overall pick in the April draft out of Virginia Tech. Tapp played in 53 career games, making 187 tackles and 23 1/2 sacks. Tapp agreed to a multiyear deal, but terms were not released.

Sims, an All-Big Ten lineman last season for Ohio State, is listed as a guard. But the Seahawks are looking for Sims to also add depth at tackle.

Obomanu, a receiver from Auburn, is getting a shot as the team’s kick returner.

Seattle took Jennings out of Miami with the 31st overall pick. He is expected to challenge veteran Kelly Herndon for the starting cornerback spot opposite Marcus Trufant.
