No doughnuts? She’s more whole
“American Idol” runner-up Katharine McPhee says she struggled for years with bulimia before seeking help.
At her worst, McPhee says, she would throw up as many as seven times a day, putting her singing career in jeopardy.
It was like “putting a sledgehammer to your vocal cords,” she said in an interview published on People magazine’s Web site.
McPhee, 22, said she finally sought help last fall after successfully auditioning for “Idol.” She enrolled in an eating disorder center in Los Angeles and spent three months in therapy.
Now she says she’s healthier thanks to the “intuitive eating” approach she learned there.
“If you look at a doughnut, people think it’s a fattening food. Why?” she said. “Because if you eat it you’ll get fat? No, you’ll get fat if you eat 10 doughnuts.”
McPhee’s first recordings under her new post-“Idol” contract, “Over the Rainbow” and “My Destiny,” will be released next week.
Sneak in the grass
A photographer was arrested after he was discovered hiding in bushes outside a Malibu, Calif., daycare center attended by Angelina Jolie‘s adopted son.
The shooter was trying to take pictures of 4-year-old Maddox Jolie-Pitt, according to a publicist for Jolie’s partner, Brad Pitt.
He was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and released on $1,000 bail.
The real skinny?
Reese Witherspoon has sued Star magazine, alleging the tabloid ran a false story saying she is pregnant with her third child.
The lawsuit says a story in the magazine’s current issue falsely stated that she didn’t want producers of two of her upcoming movies to know she was expecting, and suggested that Witherspoon was wearing maternity clothing.
“The true facts are that plaintiff is not pregnant, does not have a baby bump and has not otherwise gained weight such that she has had to resort to wearing empire-waist dresses,” the suit says.
Good intentions, cruel result
“Cruel Intentions” actress Selma Blair has filed for divorce from actor-writer Ahmet Zappa after two years of marriage.
Blair, 34, and Zappa, 32, the son of the late musician Frank Zappa, have no children.
No backing out now
Buzz continues to build over this weekend’s expected wedding of actress Nicole Kidman and country singer Keith Urban in Australia.
Local media have predicted an extravagant, black-tie affair with a guest list that includes Kidman’s longtime friend Naomi Watts, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and “Moulin Rouge” director Baz Luhrmann.
“The nerves are fine,” Kidman said Friday as she and Urban drove away from her waterfront home to a rumored wedding rehearsal.
