Workers may be eligible for tax credit

Last year, low-income workers received $39 billion through the Earned Income Tax Credit, a federal program. Yet many people remain unaware of the tax credit. With the April 15 tax-filing deadline approaching, here is the information:

What: The Earned Income Tax Credit provides benefits to low-income people who worked full- or part-time jobs last year.

Who: Families with children who earned less than $35,263; childless workers age 25 to 64 who earned less than $11,750.

Why bother: Qualifying families with two children may receive up to $4,400. Families with one child may receive up to $2,662. People with no children may receive up to $399.
