Post Falls man, 54, held in molestation of boy

Taryn Brodwater Staff writer

Police arrested a 54-year-old Post Falls man Monday on suspicion of felony sexual battery of a teenage boy whom he allegedly plied with alcohol.

Post Falls police Detective Dave Beck said Alan Duncan allegedly had been providing alcohol to neighborhood boys, ages 15 and older, for the past three to four years. Beck said a 16-year-old told police he and other teens were recently drinking at Duncan’s home at the Lucky Pines Trailer Park when Duncan allegedly molested him.

The boy said Duncan then took him to a shed and molested him again.

Duncan is employed as a security officer at North Idaho College.

NIC spokesman Kent Propst said Duncan has worked at the college since February 2005. The college will conduct an internal investigation and could either suspend Duncan with or without pay or fire him with two weeks’ notice pending its outcome, Propst said.

Duncan is being held in the Kootenai County Jail and is expected to make his initial court appearance today. Sexual battery of a minor is a felony with a 15-year maximum prison sentence.

Beck said Duncan was arrested as he returned home from work Monday.

“After some weak denials and difference of stories, he later basically corroborated the story of the victim,” Beck said. “He basically gave me a complete, exact rendition of what the boy had said.”

Police are leaving it up to the prosecutor’s discretion whether Duncan will face misdemeanor charges for supplying alcohol to minors, Beck said. He said there may be another victim and additional charges in the case.
