DECA event will benefit animal rescue group

Mt. Spokane High School DECA students are having a dinner and auction at Fairwood Animal Hospital, 317 W. Hastings Road, today at 6:30 p.m.

A fee of $1 is requested for you and a guest for a complimentary dinner. A number of desserts, including cookies, cakes and brownies will be up for auction.

A silent auction also will be held with items including a DVD player, a free oil change and gift baskets.

All proceeds will benefit the Friends for Life animal rescue group, an organization that pays for surgeries for abandoned animals and also offers assistance to those who have rescued the animals after rehabilitation.

Operation Christmas collection week

Beginning Monday through Nov.20, Spokane residents can help give children overseas a very merry Christmas with Operation Christmas Child.

Opportunity Baptist Church, 13620 E. Broadway Ave., will be accepting gift-filled shoe boxes all week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Sunday, shoe boxes can be accepted from noon to 6 p.m.

Once the shoe boxes have been collected, they will be shipped to more than eight million needy children worldwide.

Dinner benefits Children’s Village

The Children’s Village, 1350 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d’Alene, will hold its annual holiday dinner on Thursday.

The event, which includes a silent auction, will be at the Hayden Lake Country Club, 1800 E. Bozanta Drive, Hayden Lake, Idaho. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and a sit-down dinner will begin at 7.

Items available in the silent auction include: jewelry donated by Marla’s Fine Jewelry, spa packages and a golf-lovers getaway in Virginia.

Tickets are $50 per person or $95 per couple. All proceeds benefit The Children’s Village.

Shriners hold chili feed, blood drive

The Legion of Honor El Katif Shriners semiannual Chili Feed and Pay it Back Blood Drive at the Inland Northwest Blood Center, 210 W. Cataldo Ave., is on Friday.

Blood donation is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and chili will be served from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Panida hosts gala

On Saturday, held in the historic Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., Sandpoint, the annual Holly Eve Gala will begin at 6:30 p.m.

This year’s event will include entertainment from Danceworks & Co., the Sandpoint High School Performing Choir and St. Joseph’s Pipe and Drum Corps. Champagne and a variety of hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants also will be available.

Tickets are $25 and are on sale at Eve’s Leaves, 326 N. First Ave., Sandpoint, Panhandle State Bank in Sandpoint and the Festival at Sandpoint office in the Old Powerhouse building, 120 E. Lake St.

Proceeds benefit The Panida Theater, The Festival at Sandpoint, Pend Oreille Arts Council, Community Cancer Services and Bonner Community Hospice.
