Cougars on a roll against Huskies

The Washington State women’s soccer team opened Pac-10 play by beating cross-state rival Washington 1-0 in Pullman on Sunday.

Carly Dobratz scored her third goal of the season in the 57th minute to give WSU the win.

The Cougars (6-4-2, 1-0-0) have now defeated the Huskies ((5-7-0, 0-1-0) three straight times, the most in WSU program history.

Cougars keeper Brynn Bemis earned her second shutout of the season.

“The Gonzaga University women’s soccer team opened WCC play with a 3-0 loss to No. 4 University of Portland.

The Bulldogs fall to 6-6-1 overall, while the defending national champion Pilots improve to 11-2-1.

“EWU struck first but was unable to hold on against the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona, falling 3-1 in Cheney.

The Eagles (6-7-1, 1-1) got a score from Cat Baller in the 22nd minute but were out shot by the Lumberjacks 13-5 for the match to snap a two-game win streak.

“The University of Idaho women’s soccer team fell to 0-14-0 with a 1-0 loss to San Jose State in Moscow.

The Vandals are 0-2 in WAC play.

Men’s soccer

Gonzaga posted a 4-0 WCC victory over Saint Mary’s College in Spokane.

George Josten, John Reha, Grant Lundberg and Bryan Mullaney all scored for the Bulldogs (4-5-2, 1-3-1) in the win.

“The ninth-ranked Washington Huskies suffered their second straight home loss, falling to the University of California 2-0 in Seattle.

The loss, coupled with a loss to Stanford on Friday, leaves the Huskies at (8-4-0, 1-4-0). UW has now been held scoreless for three straight matches.

“North Idaho College defeated Walla Walla College 7-0 in Coeur d’ Alene.

David Powers scored twice in the victory as NIC outshot Walla Walla 38-3.

“The Community Colleges of Spokane got an easy 4-1 victory over Peninsula at Spokane Falls CC.

Junior Hockey

The Spokane Braves fell to Fernie 5-3 at Fernie. Johnny Clark, Steven Phillips and Lane Bitz scored goals for the Braves in the loss.
