CCS men’s soccer shuts out North Idaho

Community Colleges of Spokane blanked North Idaho 4-0 in a non-conference men’s soccer match Tuesday in Coeur d’Alene.

Dan Landry, Eric Kuno, Jay Vela and Jesse Dunbar all scored goals for the Sasquatch (13-3-1) and Ryan Matern added two assists.

Hawk Mummey made 15 saves for CCS, which won despite being outshot 25-10. NIC is 9-4-1.

Women’s soccer

CC Spokane and North Idaho (10-3-2) played to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference match in Coeur d’Alene.

Kim Pearce scored the Cardinals’ goal in the 32nd minute off an assist from McKenzie Favero. The Sasquatch (11-3-2) got an own goal in the 54th minute. Neither team scored in the two overtimes.

Hunting

A free introduction to handgun safety will be offered Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sharp Shooting Indoor Range, 1200 N. Freya. Preregistration is required. Call 535-4444.

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, which sponsors this “First Shots” program, 65 million Americans own handguns.

First Shots events provide the public, especially new shooters, with a chance to learn the rules and requirements of handgun ownership along with comprehensive information on safety, shooting sports opportunities and range access.
