Vandals continue hot WAC streak

The University of Idaho volleyball team continued to play well in the Western Athletic Conference, running its winning streak to four as it beat Utah State 29-31, 30-19, 30-23, 30-19 Thursday at Logan, Utah.

With the win, Idaho improved to 6-12 overall and 5-1 in WAC play. Utah State dropped to 10-13, 3-6.

Erin Curtis led the Vandals with 13 kills, three aces and six blocks. Debbie Pederson added 12 kills and four blocks.

“Brittany Johnson had 12 kills and 10 blocks, and Corina Beyer had 35 assists and 10 digs as Washington State stopped a 10-year losing streak at Tucson as it rallied past Arizona 26-30, 30-22, 30-26, 30-26.

Washington State moves to 14-8 overall and 2-6 in Pac-10 play. Arizona is 10-10, 1-7.

“Becky Jones finished with 12 kills, but it wasn’t enough offensive punch as San Francisco (18-5, 2-4 West Coast Conference swept visiting Gonzaga (5-16, 0-6) 3-0.

Women’s soccer

Nanda McCormick scored her third goal in as many matches as Gonzaga defeated San Diego 1-0 in overtime in San Diego.

The Zags improved to 9-6-1 overall and 3-1 in WCC play. The Toreros fell to 9-7, 1-3.

McCormick’s game-winning goal came almost 31/2 minutes into overtime.

“Shaylee Stegen scored off an assist from Molly Neilson in the 89th minute for visiting Weber State as it defeated Eastern Washington University.
