Seahawks healthier than expected

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Uh-oh. Another Seahawks starter was injured.

The team’s medical staff initially told coach Mike Holmgren on Aug. 26 that Itula Mili’s injury could be the second serious knee damage to a tight end in two weeks.

Jerramy Stevens and wide receiver Darrell Jackson were already out. So were defensive linemen Russell Davis and Marcus Tubbs. Safety Michael Boulware was just getting back from offseason knee surgery.

Holmgren said the feeling he got from team doctors and trainers immediately after Mili got hurt was that “the sky was falling.”

But Chicken Little wasn’t aboard the Seahawks’ flight to Detroit on Friday for today’s season opener.

On Friday, Holmgren was pleased – and relieved – to report that Mili was fine to play against the Lions. And that Jackson, who had not practiced until this week following February knee surgery, was ready to go.

Jackson might even start.

“We’ll have to see how he feels,” Holmgren said after a morning practice and before the team flight to Detriot.
