Bush couldn’t dodge SportsLink bloggers

Vince Grippi The Spokesman-Review

What a week it was.

It started with the Seahawks making the biggest trade of the NFL season.

It ended with the Seahawks making big play after big play against the Cardinals.

The last part? I made that up, but they did win.

And that seemed to be the week’s Al Davis-like theme: Just get a win, baby – no matter how.

The Cougars marched 82 yards to a game-winning Loren Langley field goal.

The Vandals held off Division I-AA Idaho State.

Whitworth won again and moved up to No. 17 in the NCAA Division III poll.

Heck, even the Mariners came close to having a winning week on the road. Of course, they were playing in Kansas City part of the time.

There were some losers as well, and we spent a lot of time talking about them on SportsLink too.

One of the most important dialogues was about prep athletes and drinking, a conversation we’ve had before, but an exchange made even more urgent by the recent death of a Tacoma-area high school football player.

Reggie Bush’s reputation took a hit this past week as well, and we chatted a little about that and USC’s culpability in the matter.

Prep basketball tournaments were announced, and the discussion turned to the Greater Spokane League’s decision not to have any non-league games.

Our Hunting section appeared, and some of you felt the picture that adorned the cover wasn’t appropriate, and told us so.

And that’s what we want. We want you to tell us so. Every chance you get.

Supposedly, the Internet is the modern world’s version of the town square. It’s a place where everyone’s voice can be heard. A place to join in the conversation.

There are the staples, of course. Washington State football for one. The Cougars always seem to be a never- ending fount of discussion, no matter how they are playing.

A lot of you comment on Glenn Kasses’ All Cougs, All the Time blog (spokesmanreview. com/blogs/wsu/) and that’s great. But when we’re at Cougars games – sorry, but we won’t be in Stanford this week – join in.

A lot of you read Dave Trimmer’s EWU Sports blog (spokesmanreview.com/blogs/ ewu/) and this week I’ll be traveling with Dave to Bozeman – six hours across the endless expanse known as Montana – and then checking in prior to and after the game. If you have Eag – or Bobcat – questions, send them along.

That’s part of what SportsLink is for, a place for you to respond to the sports world around you.

Remember, not only will we read it, but so will your friends, your neighbors, your Fed-Ex guy. This is your chance to reach an audience slightly larger than the guy who yells in the square in front of the Federal Building.

One of the questions I got this week revolved around whether I was a Cougars fan. You can read my answer at www.spokesmanreview.com/ blogs/sportslink under the post “Cougars in the middle of a long grind.”

I can tell you one thing. I am a fan of conversation.
