Reds 5, Cubs 4: At Cincinnati, Ken Griffey Jr. moved into 10th place on baseball’s career home run list with a three-run, pinch-hit shot in the eighth inning that lifted Cincinnati to victory over Chicago.

Nationals 7, Mets 3: At New York, Ryan Zimmerman hit a three-run double and Beltran Perez pitched into the seventh inning in his second major league start while veteran Tom Glavine struggled on the mound for New York in the Washington victory.

Padres 6, Cardinals 5: At St. Louis, Mike Piazza’s single snapped a seventh-inning tie and San Diego got stingy relief, beating sagging St. Louis in a matchup of division leaders. San Diego has a two-game lead in the West over idle Los Angeles with six games to play.

Astros 5, Phillies 4: At Philadelphia, pinch-hitter Mike Lamb’s infield single drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, lifting Houston to its sixth straight victory over Philadelphia. Philadelphia dropped into a tie with Los Angeles for the wild-card lead.

Diamondbacks 7, Giants 1: At San Francisco, Conor Jackson hit a three-run homer and Eric Byrnes also connected against San Francisco ace Jason Schmidt, leading Arizona to the win and eliminating San Francisco from playoff contention.
