Mets 8, Phillies 1: At Philadelphia, Freddy Garcia’s long-anticipated debut with the Phillies was a bust. Moises Alou homered twice and drove in three runs, Tom Glavine got his 293rd win and New York beat the Phillies. Garcia allowed three runs and eight hits, striking out six in 4 2/3 innings.

Astros 6, Marlins 1: At Houston, Carlos Lee hit a two-run homer and drove in two more runs with a double to lead the Astros over Florida.

Rockies 5, Giants 3: At Denver, Yorvit Torrealba’s three-run double off Kevin Correia capped a five-run eighth inning that carried Colorado past San Francisco.

Reds 11, Brewers 5: At Cincinnati, Ryan Freel had four hits and singled to start a seventh-inning rally that lifted the Reds to a victory over Milwaukee.

Braves 6, Nationals 4: At Washington, John Smoltz didn’t allow an earned run until the seventh inning, Chipper Jones homered and Kelly Johnson had a career-high four hits as Atlanta topped the Nationals, who wore Virginia Tech baseball caps as a tribute to the victims of Monday’s shooting rampage at the school.

Pirates 6, Cardinals 1: At St. Louis, Tom Gorzelanny and Matt Capps combined on a four-hitter and Adam LaRoche hit a three-run homer, leading Pittsburgh over the Cardinals.

Padres 4, Cubs 3 (14): At Chicago, Geoff Blum doubled in the go-ahead run in the 14th inning and San Diego beat the Cubs.

Dodgers 6, Diamondbacks 4: At Phoenix, Juan Pierre doubled and tripled and scored three runs to lead Los Angeles to a victory over Arizona. Chad Billingsley pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win for the Dodgers, who have won 10 of 12.
