Community Update: ‘Hope’ to benefit Mexican orphans

On Thursday, “An Evening of Hope” will be held at the Spokane Convention Center.

The evening will begin with cocktails, appetizers and a silent auction at 7 p.m. From 7:30 to 8:30, listen to inspirational stories, bringing hope to children at Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos, or “Our Little Brothers and Sisters,” helping to raise money for orphans in Mexico.

Benefit event

Blue Prints for Learning, a nonprofit child-care program in Spokane, will host its first annual Great Spokane Art Party on Saturday.

Held at The Community Building, 35 W. Main Ave., the event will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. and will feature 15 local artists, wine, cheeses, and assorted gourmet delights.

Tickets are $50. Proceeds benefit Blue Prints for Learning.

Karate Championships

The Inland Northwest Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation will host the Washington State Karate Championships on Saturday at Central Valley High School.

The tournament will begin at 10 a.m.

Tickets are $10 for spectators, free for children 5and under. Proceeds benefit children with cancer and their families in the Inland Northwest.

Guilds’ School Community Penny Drive

The Spokane Guilds’ School is holding its 11th annual Community Penny Drive on Saturday.

The purpose of the Drive is to promote compassion and acceptance of children at the School with developmental disabilities.

Money collected in the Penny Drive will benefit the Spokane Guilds’ School Foundation. The foundation ensures that children with disabilities will be able to attend the school regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

Food Drive

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Back to Basics Chiropractic, 807 N. Sullivan Road, will hold a food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank.

All chiropractic services will be donated in exchange for a bag of food. No appointment is necessary.
