Community update: CROP Hunger Walk today at Gonzaga

Help fight hunger in the Spokane community today, and be a part of the CROP Hunger Walk.

The 10-kilometer walk starts at 1:30 p.m., with registration and entertainment beginning at noon at the south side of Martin Centre at Gonzaga University.

CROP Walk is an annual event to raise money for Second Harvest Food Bank, Interfaith Hospitality of Spokane, Valley Meals on Wheels, and the Downtown Meals on Wheels and Senior Center. For more information call (509) 326-5656.

Mother’s Day tea

Mothers, daughters, grandmothers and others can enjoy an afternoon of tea and fashion at the Mother’s Day Tea and Fashion Show on May 12. The deadline to purchase tickets is Monday.

The event, which begins at 1 p.m., will be at St. Thomas More Parish, 8112 N. Howard Drive.

The fashion show will be provided by Chico’s, and a prettiest hat contest will also be a part of the afternoon.

Tickets are $15 per person and must be purchased in advance. Proceeds will benefit the RiversEdge chorus, a 23-member women’s nonprofit barbershop chorus.

Pierce spaghetti feed

On Thursday, Central Valley High School, 821 S. Sullivan Road, is hosting a spaghetti feed, silent auction and bake sale to benefit the family of Austan Pierce, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2003.

The event will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and will be in the CVHS Commons.

A suggested donation of $5 per person or $20 for a family of four or more will be collected at the door.

Community yard sle

The Neva-Wood COPS, 4705 N. Addison St., will be holding a community yard sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

McGruff the Crime Dog will be on hand. Bike registration and family photo ID also will be available.
