Greg Albi completes Marine recruit training

Greg Albi of Spokane graduated from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Marine Training. He is the son of Frank and Darlene Albi of Newman Lake and a graduate of East Valley High School.

Spring graduations

Alison-Claire Caputo of Spokane recently graduated from Gonzaga University with a bachelor’s degree in applied communication studies. She is the daughter John and Joann Caputo and graduated from Gonzaga Prep.

Brian Hutton of Spokane recently graduated from the University of Montana, Missoula, with a bachelor’s degree. He also graduated from the Reserve Officer Training Corps as second lieutenant.

Ryan Lancaster of Spokane Valley recently graduated from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill., with a bachelor’s degree in physical education.

•Julie Scrimgeour of Spokane was named to the spring quarter dean’s list at Gonzaga University. Scrimgeour also was among the spring graduates, receiving a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Brandt Scanlan of Spokane was named to the spring-quarter dean’s list in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington.

•Caroline Tripp of Spokane was named to the dean’s list for the spring quarter in the Weinburg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Jennifer Edwards of Spokane was named to the second-semester dean’s list at Stephen’s College in Columbia, Mo. Edwards is the daughter of Robert Edwards and graduated from Mead High School.

•The following area students were named to spring-quarter dean’s list at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Ore.: Sara Bates of Coeur d’Alene; Charles Johnson of Dalton Gardens; John Nehlich of Hayden, Idaho; Anthony Smith of Nine Mile Falls; and Whitney Parker and Joshua Landsverk, both of Spokane.

Emily Giese of Spokane was named to the second-semester College of Arts and Sciences dean’s list at Loyola University in Chicago.

Biology honors

•Peter Lehmann of Spokane was cited for outstanding academic achievement in Biology 71 during the spring quarter at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H. He is the son of Baolu Lehmann.

Named to Who’s Who

•Anna Schara of Spokane and Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., was recently chosen to be included in the 2007 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, based upon her academic achievement, service to the community, leadership to the community and continued success.

Scholarship winners

•Two students from the Spokane area graduated in the spring from Colby University in Waterville, Maine. They are the following.

Anna Czechowski is a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and the daughter of Michael and Daun Czechowski of Spokane.

Kristin Luber is the daughter of Stephen and Lorie Luber, Colbert, and graduated from St. George’s School.

•Michael Lowe from Eastern Washington University was awarded the Denver Bound Scholarship for fall 2007 to the University of Colorado at Denver.

•Western Washington University recently awarded the following twelve Spokane residents scholarships for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Filomon Afenegus received a $600 Chappelle Arnett Scholarship and a $2,000 Willis Ball Memorial Scholarship. He is the son of Afenegus Desbelai and Hanesta Abera.

Lynn Baumgartner received a $500 Whidbey Pebble Pushers Scholarship. She is the daughter of K. and Janet Baumgartner.

Alyse Clacy received a $1,500 David McInnis PR Web Scholarship. She is the daughter of Jeff Clacy and Patricia Leighton.

Rose Ekins received a $2,000 Double Eagle II scholarship. She is the daughter of Dave Ekins.

Matthew Horrocks received a $2,000 U.S. Bank Minority Scholarship. He is the son of Bob and Carol Horrocks.

Katelyn Johnson received a $1,500 Avis J. Stewart Scholarship. She is the daughter of Burr Johnson and Dawn Marston-Johnson.

Janelle Kann received a $1,000 Carl Simpson Scholarship. She is the daughter of Roger and Diane Kann.

Tiffany Kerstetter received a $1,000 Pechthalt Family Scholarship. She is the daughter of Lenny and Pam Kerstetter.

Michel Lundy received a $1,300 Herb and Beth Hearsey Scholarship Endowment. He is the son of Michel Lundy and Jacqueline Lorick.

Sean Mills received a $2,000 Multicultural Achievement Program Scholarship. He is the son of Donavon and Elizabeth Mills.

Lich Pham received an $800 Facilities Management Scholarship. He also received a $500 Don C. Walters Scholarship. Pham is the son of Huynh Pham and Tuyen Ngo.

Michaela Rollins received a $15,000 Adventure Learning Grant. She is the daughter of Martin and Genevieve Rollins.
