Religion Notebook: Our Place celebrates anniversary
For 20 years, Our Place Community Ministries, 1509 W. College Ave., has been serving low-income residents of Spokane, especially those in the West Central neighborhood.
The organization provides food, clothing, hygiene products, transportation and utilities assistance to nearly 15,000 people, 41 percent of whom either are younger than 18 years old or are senior citizens.
Our Place is a distribution site for Second Harvest Food Bank, giving out nearly 200,000 pounds of food each year.
Seven West Central churches provide support to the Our Place organization. Private donations also are accepted.
Our Place will throw a party Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to celebrate its two decades of service to the community.
Mayor Dennis Hession is expected to speak, Big Mumbo Blues will perform, games are planned for the kids and food will be available.

Summer fun
Mt. Spokane Church, 6311 E. Mount Spokane Park Drive in Mead, will hold a summer celebration Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The family event will include carnival booths and games, concession stands, a jumping castle, pony rides, a car show and face painting.

Basketball camp
Bounce Basketball Camp will be held Monday through Aug. 31 at the Market Street Market, 5906 N. Market St.
St. Peter Lutheran Church is holding the event, sponsored by the Greater Spokane Hillyard Business Association and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Children 7 years old through middle-school ages are invited to two clinics – one for kids 7 through 11 years old from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m. and one for middle-school kids from 9:to 12:15 p.m.
The clinics are free.

Singles group
Spokane Christian Singles will hold its Sizzlin’ Singles Summer Dance on Saturday at Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave.
The event will start with karaoke from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., with the dance to follow from 8:30 to midnight.
Admission is $10.
