Area college basketball: Idaho men rout Central Arkansas

Brandon Brown led the Idaho men’s basketball team with a game-high 18 points as the Vandals rolled past Central Arkansas 80-58 in a non-conference game at Cowan Spectrum in Moscow, Idaho.

Mike Hall added 13 for Idaho.

Marcus Pillow scored 14 points for the Bears (9-3).

Idaho (3-7) was led in the opening half by Brown and Hall, who scored 13 points each.

Brown helped the Vandals pull away with nine points in a 4-minute span, turning a 12-10 advantage into a 15-point lead.

In the second half, the Vandals led by as many as 30 points.

Central Arkansas beat Idaho 65-49 on Dec. 5 in Conway, Ark.

“Bo Gregg scored 29 points, including eight 3-pointers, and CC Spokane defeated Peninsula 73-43 in a non-conference game at Spokane Community College.

Matthew Dorr added 17 points for the Sasquatch, who outscored the Pirates 42-23 in the first half.

Peninsula, which handed CCS its only loss of the season on Dec. 7, was led by Dominick Lozano’s 11 points.

CCS improved to 12-1 on the season while the Pirates fell to 7-3.

“Ryan Appleby tied a school record with seven 3-pointers and scored 21 points, and Jon Brockman had 14 of his 24 in the second half as Washington pulled away late from Portland State for an 84-65 non-conference win in Seattle.

Brockman made 11 of 13 shots and grabbed 12 rebounds, as the Huskies outrebounded the Vikings 34-14.

Washington improved to 6-4 while Portland State fell to 7-5.

Women

Sonya Rogers scored 21 points, including four 3-pointers, to help Montana defeat Washington State 74-54 in Missoula.

Rogers was 7 of 11 from the field for the Lady Griz (7-3). Tamara Guardipee had 11 points, and Sarah Ena came off the bench to add 10 points. Britney Lohman led the team with 12 rebounds.

The Lady Griz led 36-25 at the break and kept Washington State to just 32 percent shooting from the field. The Cougars turned the ball over 14 times and committed 20 personal fouls.

Katie Calderwood came off the bench to lead Washington State (3-7) with 10 points. Alexa Price added nine bench points, while Heather Molzen grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

“Dominique Carter scored a game-high 23 points to lead San Francisco to a 95-86 non-conference win over Eastern Washington at War Memorial Gym in San Francisco.

Nicole Scott scored 20 points to lead the Eagles, who fell to 3-8. The Dons improved to 8-4.

“Sara Dennehy and Katie Madison scored nine points apiece to lead Idaho to its first win of the season, 42-31 over Colorado State in a non-conference game at Cowan Spectrum in Moscow, Idaho.

Dennehy added a team-high 10 rebounds for the Vandals, who outscored the Rams 25-18 in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Britney Minor scored a game-high 10 points to lead Colorado State.

Idaho improved to 1-10 while the Rams fell to 2-9.
