Community Update: Women’s Soup-er Bowl will aid free restaurant

Today from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. head up to Selkirk Lodge at Mount Spokane State Park for the Soup-er Bowl Snow Day for Women.

The cross-country ski race begins at 10 a.m. A soup and bread lunch will follow snowshoe and self-guided ski tours.

Prizes and awards will be handed out after lunch.

Donations for the event are welcome, and all proceeds will benefit the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant, which provides meals and support for women and children in need.

Gymboree sock party

Visit the Spokane Valley Gymboree Play and Music Center, 13817 E. Sprague Ave., Suite 4, for the first Sweet Feet party and sock drive Monday at 3 p.m. or Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

A $25 fee is required for the 90-minute party, where kids and parents will decorate socks and create a Valentine’s Day art project.

As part of the party, Gymboree will donate up to 10,000 pairs of new Gymboree socks to the Kids in Distressed Situations charity, which helps children and families who are living in poverty or are victims of natural disasters. Socks donated by party attendees also are requested.

Wishing Star social

Wishing Star Foundation is in need of volunteers for upcoming fundraising events.

On Thursday, a wine and cheese social will be at Isabella’s Restaurant and Gin Joint, 21 W. Main Ave., to share information on upcoming campaigns, wish visits, working in the office and other activities.

Spaghetti feed at Horizon

Horizon Middle School, 3915 S. Pines Road, is holding a spaghetti feed to help with medical expenses for two of its students, Eric and Brandon Stalker, on Thursday.

The students were in a serious car accident on Jan. 16.

Spaghetti, warm bread and salad will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested.
