James Jones scored on a reverse layup with 2.1 seconds remaining to lead Whitworth to a 65-63 Northwest Conference basketball victory over Pacific Lutheran Saturday night in Tacoma.

The 13th-ranked Pirates needed all of the game-high 24 scored by James, who made 9 of 17 shots from the field, including 4 of 9 from beyond the arc.

James also finished with nine rebounds.

The Lutes led 37-29 with 17:20 left, but Whitworth responded with an 11-3 run to tie the score. The Pirates grabbed a 55-44 lead after Jon Young’s 3-pointer from the corner with 9:54 to play.

•Jon Clift (Ferris) recorded 20 points, four rebounds and four assists to lead Community Colleges of Spokane in a 70-47 romp of Treasure Valley in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges play at Spokane CC.

Eric Beal (North Central) added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Sasquatch (12-14, 5-6), who won the rebounding edge 43-27.

Austin Larsen scored a game-high 21 points for the Chuckars (6-20, 0-11).
