In brief: Man arrested in attack at plaza

The Spokesman-Review

A man was in jail Tuesday night after police say he stabbed a stranger at the STA Plaza and then ran to his apartment and assaulted another man.

Joseph E. Curtis was at the STA Plaza downtown when, for no apparent reason, he stabbed a man and then ran to an apartment in the 200 block of West Sprague Avenue, said Spokane police Sgt. Isamu Yamada.

Once in the apartment, he used a sturdy metal pipe to beat someone who was an old acquaintance, Yamada said.

Police arrested Curtis, whose age was given as 22 or 23, around 4:30 p.m. and booked him into the Spokane County Jail, to await a bond hearing this morning. He was booked on first- and second-degree assault charges.

Paramedics treated the man who was stabbed, but his condition was unknown late Tuesday night.

Coeur d’Alene

Victim’s helper sought by police

Coeur d’Alene police want to interview a woman who came to the aid of a stabbing victim Friday outside a downtown bikini bar.

Jobe D. Lawyer, 25, was stabbed in his left side late Friday night outside the Torch Lounge. Police later arrested 25-year-old Elias Pickering and 24-year-old Daniel L. “Buddy” Parks in connection with the stabbing.

Coeur d’Alene police Sgt. Christie Wood said police are looking for an unidentified woman who found Lawyer outside the door to the bar at 216 E. Coeur d’Alene Ave. around 9:45 p.m. Wood said that woman went into the Torch Lounge and reported the stabbing.

The woman, or anyone with information on how to contact the woman, is asked to call Coeur d’Alene police detectives at (208) 769-2320 or the tip line at (208) 769-2296.
