Area Roundup: NIC’s Sand, Mattingly tops at Classic
North Idaho College’s Kyle Sand and Evan Mattingly wrestled to 4-0 records Saturday at the Oregon Classic in Redmond, Ore.
Sand and Mattingly earned first place in the 184- and 197-pound weight classes, respectively.
Heinrich Barnes, wrestling at 141, won his first three matches before falling to Jessie Arett of Bernabee Mountain Wrestling Club in the championship match.
NIC’s Brandon Palaniuk (133) went 5-1 for third place. Robby Shaw (Hwt.) was fourth with a 3-2 record, while teammate Lee Morrison placed fifth at 5-2.
NIC’s Dino May wrestled to a 4-2 record and sixth-place finish at 155. Travis Temple’s record of 4-2 at 125 also garnered him a sixth-place finish.
Among the other teams competing at the Oregon Classic were Boise State, University of Oregon, Oregon State, and Southern Oregon.
