Public swimming areas to beat the heat:

“Spokane pools:

Cannon (Maxwell and Elm); Comstock (29th and Howard); Hillyard (Columbia and Market); Liberty (Fifth and Pittsburg); Witter (Mission and Upriver Drive)

Hours: Mon-Fri.: 1-4:30 p.m. daily; 6:30-8 p.m. daily (Witter only); 1 -7 p.m. Saturdays; closed Sundays.

Fee: Free for ages 17 and under; $2 for adults.

“Spokane Valley pools:

Park Road Pool, 906 N. Park; 1-3:30 p.m. daily; 4-6 p.m. every day but Wednesday; and 6:15-8 p.m. Friday-Monday

Mission Pool, 11123 E. Mission; 1-3:30 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. daily; and 6:15-8:00 p.m. weekends. (Weekday evening sessions resume July 30.)

Terrace View Pool, 13252 E. 24th; 1-3:30 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. daily. Also 6:15-8 p.m. daily through July 27.

Fee for all Valley pools: Free for children under 5 with paying adult; $1 for ages 6 and over; $20 for a summer swim pass good for 25 visits. Pre-teen children are free on weekends with paying adult.

“Spokane County pools:

Northside Aquatic Facility (includes waterslide, diving boards, spray features and tumble buckets), 18120 North Hatch Road; 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. daily.

Fee: Free for ages 2 and under; $2.50 for ages 3-5; $5 for ages 6 and older.

Holmberg Pool, 9615 N. Wall; 1-2:30 p.m.; 2:45-4:15 p.m. and 4:30-6 p.m. weekdays.

Fee: Free for ages 5 and under; $1 for ages 6 and older.

“Spokane County lakes with public beaches:

Bear Lake, 29601 N. Highway 2; Open 10 a.m. (noon on weekends) until a half-hour before dusk.

Fish Lake, 14314 S. Myers Rd. near Cheney; Open daily from noon until a half-hour before dusk.

Liberty Lake, 3707 S. Zephyr; Open 8 a.m. to a half-hour before dusk.

Park fees: $2 (except free for children 5 and under).

“Millwood wading pool and spray park, 9300 E. Fredrick (for children 8 and younger). Pool open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday (except closed each day from 2-2:30 p.m.); Sundays 1-5 p.m. Spray park open dawn to dusk.
