Fresh Sheet : Liberty Lake market has it all

Now, you can learn a little something at the Liberty Lake Farmers’ Market, in addition to picking up a basket full of fresh produce, breads and other local goods.

The market is hosting demonstrations about cooking, flowers and other food-related topics each Saturday at 11 a.m.

So far, shoppers have learned about making fresh salsa and about decorating with lavender.

The Liberty Lake Farmers’ Market runs each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Want wine with that cheese?

Wine and cheese. It’s a natural pairing.

But until recently, you couldn’t bring a bottle of wine from Vino!, 222 S. Washington St., next door to Saunders Cheese Market to uncork while sampling cheeses.

But now the cheese shop has a wine-service license.

Customers can bring in a bottle of wine, pay the $4.50 corkage fee, and the staff will prepare a sampler plate of cheeses ($7.99) to complement the wine.

It’s almost as big as the day somebody put peanut butter and jelly together on the same piece of bread.

Purple-powered road trip

Fans of lavender will want to head west to Sequim, Wash., the “Lavender Capital of North America,” for the 11th annual Lavender Festival, July 20 through 22.

Visitors can tour eight farms to learn how the herb is grown, harvested and turned into a wide range of products. There’s also a street fair in downtown Sequim.

Tickets for the lavender tour are $15.
