In brief: Teens offered duct tape workshops

Advanced duct tape workshops are available through the Spokane Public Library’s Teen Summer Reading program. Crafting techniques to be covered include duct tape wallets, shoelaces, roses, purses and bracelets.

Classes are free, don’t require reservations, and the library will supply the duct tape. The remaining workshops will be July 25 at 3:30 p.m. at the East Side Library, 524 S. Stone, and Aug. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Shadle Library, 2111 W. Wellesley Ave.

The Shop will show free movies

The Shop, 924 S. Perry St., has announced its summer movie schedule. The movies are free and start at dusk.

The lineup includes: Saturday, “Grease”; July 20, “Raising Arizona”; July 21, “Batman”; July 28, “Labyrinth”; Aug. 4, “King Kong”; Aug. 11, “Tommy Boy”; Aug. 18, “Rocky”; Aug. 25, “The Blues Brothers.”

Moviegoers should bring their own chairs or blankets. For more information, call 534-1647.

West Central

Free Girl Scout program offered

Girls living in Spokane’s West Central neighborhood will now be able to have free access to the new Girl Scout Program Center, thanks to grants from Inland Northwest Community Foundation’s Chesrown Family Fund and the Women Helping Women Fund.

The grants will provide scholarships for girls ages 5 to 17 that give them access to the program center and free registration for workshops and events throughout the year.

The program center, 1404 N Ash St., is open to any girl age 5 to 17 for a small registration fee and $5 per month. Summer hours are 1:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday, and Saturdays by reservation.

Drive to aid those with dystrophy

Firefighters will be hitting the streets Saturday to “Fill the Boot” for muscular dystrophy.

The firefighters from districts, 4, 8, 9, 10, Spokane Valley and Stevens County will ask for donations from around the area. The funds will help to pay for medications, wheelchairs and other needs for those with muscular dystrophy.

Arbor Crest offers mansion tours

Arbor Crest Wine Cellars is offering private tours of the historic Royal Riblet Mansion and grounds, originally built as a private residence before becoming the winery headquarters and event grounds. Tour guests will be given samples of Arbor Crest wines and then taken on a tour of the mansion. Guests also will receive a book on the estate’s history.

Cost of the tour is $15 per person, limited to five guests per tour. To schedule a tour, call Shelby Enevold at 927-4363.
