In brief: Owners hope to expand home use

The Spokesman-Review

The owners of a historic house at 1321 W. Ninth Ave. are seeking a conditional-use permit to continue offering special events, such as weddings, at the home.

Agent Dwight Hume said the owners, John and Thelma Hoffman, held a neighborhood meeting earlier this month and intend to apply for the permit.

Hume said the Hoffmans have been in discussions with Thada and Warren Ziegler of Taste and See Ministries about using the house for Victorian teas sponsored by Taste and See.

The 1907 Prairie-style house was designed by Kirtland Cutter and Karl Malmgren for John Sengfelder, who ran a bakery and confectionery. He and his wife sold the house in 1923 to Roy Bungay and his wife.

The home is known as the Sengfelder-Bungay House.

According to the city’s Web site, the house shows Cutter’s versatility in applying emerging architectural trends.

The house has been operated as a bed and breakfast over the years.
